Have it all:
Protection, Comfort, & Style

The SafeSeal Face Mask™️ by ColorChoice isn’t “just another face mask.”  It simply fits better and seals better around the edge of the mask. According to published research, most airborne particles bypass a face mask through its edges, and therefore, “the priority in respirator/mask development should be shifted from improving the efficiency of the filter medium to establishing a better fit that would eliminate or minimize faceseal leakage.”

Frequently
asked
questions

Yes. There are several design aspects that make this mask safer than a typical cloth mask:

  1. The seal. According to published research, most airborne particles bypass a face mask through its edges, and therefore “the priority in respirator/mask development should be shifted from improving the efficiency of the filter medium to establishing a better fit that would eliminate or minimize faceseal leakage.” (J Occup Environ Hyg. 2009; 6(10): 593–603). Due to the variety of face shapes, we cannot guarantee a perfect seal on every face, however, great effort has gone into accomplishing a seal with our mask. We advise removing facial hair for the best seal.
  2. Effective and replaceable filters. Our filter media has passed Neilson Labs tests with flying colors, ensuring your safety. However, filter media becomes less effective the more its used, which is why we designed the SafeSeal face mask to make use of replaceable filters.
  3. The material and barrier plate. Wearing a cloth mask on a rainy day or in an industrial environment lends itself to getting wet or catching fire. Our material passes Neilson Labs flammability test and additionally adds a barrier plate which has passed Neilson Labs' Synthetic Blood Penetration test, demonstrating that projectile liquids cannot get past the mask or compromise the filter.

Yes. The SafeSeal face mask is designed to be washable and reusable. The filters need to be replaced rather than washed. Everything else can be hand washed with soap and warm water.

Head over to our shop for replacement filters, which come in packs of ten (10).

While you should wash your mask daily, you may choose to replace your filters less often. As a reference, CPAP machines typically recommend changing their filters every two weeks. However, depending on how often you use your mask throughout each day, you may need to change the filter weekly, biweekly, or daily. Just remember, the more you use your filter, the less effective it will become.

Yes. The SafeSeal face mask has been thoroughly tested at Neilson Labs.

Particle Filtration Efficiency: (PFE) Our filter media was tested at Nelson Labs in October of 2020 for PFE and we are happy to report that the average PFE was 99.3% To pass the PFE per the ASTM F2100-19 requirements for Level II, the PFE would need to be greater than 98%. Our filter media averaged 99.3%, with the lowest result being 98.2%, and the highest result being 99.8%.

Bacterial Filtration Efficiency: (BFE) Our filter media was tested at Nelson Labs in October of 2020 and we are happy to report that the average BFE was 99.77%. To pass the BFE ASTM F2100-19 requirements for Level II, the BFE would need to be greater than 98%. Our lowest BFE result was 99.4% and the highest was 99.9%.

Synthetic Blood Penetration: (SBP) Every mask sample passed the SBP test procedure at Nelson Labs in September of 2020. Per ASTM F2100-19, to pass the standard Level II, the pressure applied would be 120 mmHg. The masks were tested at an ASTM standard test pressure of 120 mmHg. This is a pass/fail test. Result: Passed Level II.

Differential Pressure: (Delta P) Our filter media was tested at Nelson Labs in October of 2020. Delta P is a measure of breathability and per ASTM F2100-19, a Delta P of less than 6 qualifies as a Level II Face Mask requirement. Our filter media passed with the average Delta P of 5.12.

Flammability Test: Nelson Labs evaluated the flammability of the mask material and reported in all five tests that it "Did not ignite."

The mask and its straps are made from a soft, smooth, flexible, and tactile polymer material with a good rubber-like elasticity. The filter retainer, strap retainer clips, straw-hole plug, and barrier plate are made of a harder, somewhat flexible plastic. The filter media are made of paper fibers. All material is recyclable and non-toxic, complying with REACH, RoHS, and California Proposition 65 regulatory requirements.
